In 2230, DarKota was a thriving, self-sustaining megastructure…

From a distance, it looked like three towers twisting up into the sky within a fortress. Built in 2201, the three towers were each unique but all were 30 stories high. What you could not see was far more expansive. The connecting base of the structure was built 100 ft. underground, housing the irrigation, recycling and waste systems - along with an industrial printing factory and the structure’s intranet and internet servers.

When viewed from above, the megastructure took the shape of an equilateral triangle, with a tower protruding upwards from each of the points. There were two 50,000 sq ft warehouses - one was connected to the south side of the west tower and the other was connected to the south side of the east tower. Surrounding all of the buildings was a ten foot security wall encasing a 30 foot electric fence topped with barbed wire. A one-lane road ran along the interior of the entire security wall.

The only access point to DarKota above ground was the gate on the east wall, near the north tower. The parking garages were outside the secured area above ground and connected to the base underground, one along each of its three sides. Pedestrian tunnels with tempered glass walls and flat roofs linked the towers to one another above ground. One tower was for Research and Development, one was a building for commerce, and the last building housed roughly 2,000 people from all over the world. In the center of the structure were acres upon acres of monocultural farmland. The soil below the crop was enriched and maintained by the systems within the base structure underground. An underground tunnel connected the base structure to the nearby lake.

The part of the arcology that required not only security codes, but also unique biometrics, could be found at the center of the basement of the north tower. The pink and green ore massed a 30 ft diameter and was encased in a specialized clear container embedded in a power grid. The Animaore was a limitless energy source and it powered the entire megastructure. The Animaore, along with the rest of the arcology, was watched over by M.O.R.G.A.I.N., the artificial intelligence network that was the heart and soul of DarKota.
